This week's Lundi Legend is Charlie "Charley" Patton, who in addition to being a redundant nick-name utilizer, Wolf-tamer, well-documented frowner (a popular pass-time from 1929-1934) and courageous throat-cutting survivor; he was also one of the first in the long line of "Kings-of-the-Delta-Blues" (it should be noted that this is a self-ordained title held by most blues-men, and one which I have decided to adopt myself). However not many have a claim to the throne as justified as Charlie, being one of the first popularizers of the blues, supposedly one of its most charismatic live performers, and personal mentor to many of the finest blues-men to ever live, including Robert Johnson and Howlin' Wolf.
At the The Thrill Is Back we are working on a fund in Charlie's honour to raise money for those who like "Ol Charley", had their throat slashed by a prostitute, survived, had the wound become infected, only to eventually become a factor in a heart failure related death. If any of you are suffering from this tragic affliction, please let us here at the Thrill know your story.
Maybe she just wanted a spoonful?
